Account does not exist error:
This error appears when you select your bank account. Its an internal error and the only thing you can do from your side is restart your phone, clear cache and wait. In order to clear the App’s cache follow these steps –
- Go to Settings ► App
- Select BHIM App
- Tap on Clear Cache
If somehow this does not work, You may try re-installing BHIM app. The best way in my opinion is to wait and see this resolved from the back-end.
BHIM App OTP Error Solution
This is the most common one. This happens when you open the app and try to register/verify through OTP. It says BHIM App OTP error. Here is how to solve it. The reason for this is high load on the servers. We recommend you to use the app during late night hours or early morning hours to fix this issue.
- Note that OTP message which is come to the mobile phone number and enter into the application.
- The main cause of the OTP error is your SIM card balance because BHIM App requires Rs. 1.50 minimum balance in your SIM for OTP.
- First Recharge your SIM with Rs. 10 & now again attempt OTP Process.
- After the successful OTP transaction, you get a message “Last sms charges- 1.50”.
If this doesn’t work, try the wait and see method again. I have reports of a few people claiming that when nothing worked, this did well.
Error Fetching Bank Account Error Message in BHIM App
- exit the BHIM App and close it from multi tasking tab
- Perform the cache refres again as I told you before
- Go to Settings ► App
- Select BHIM App
- Tap on Clear Cache
BHIM App Device Binding Failed Error Solution
- Method-1: This problem occur in Dual SIM Phones so use the account registered sim on slot 1 then unInstall the app & again download the BHIM App to resolve device binding problem.
- Method-2: Due to low storage on phone, so uninstall the unuseful app before installing this app.
- Method-3: Uninstall the Phone Lock App or App lock App.
It won’t work in flight mode
So if you are trying the app on a phone without SIM card or in airplane mode, then the app won’t work. So make sure you have a functioning mobile connection with the number that is tied to your bank accounts.
Device Binding Failed Error
This error occurs mostly if you are a dual sim user. To fix this error put the sim card which has the number connected to your bank account into sim slot 1. It can also happen if you have low RAM or low storage available. In that case close other running apps to free up the RAM, or delete unused apps and media to make storage space free.
Not receiving the OTP
If you didn’t receive OTP for a transaction, it must be mostly because of the high loads on the servers- something you can’t do anything about. Of course using the app at non-peak hours helps.
If you got an error saying ‘ Declined Transaction’, then closing and reopening the app will fix it in most cases. However, make sure there is free RAM by closing the other apps running in the background.
You must be also aware that there is a cap on the amount you can transfer. There is a limit of Rs. 10,000 per transaction. Additionally, there is a cap of Rs. 20,000 per day.

Named after the architect of the Indian Constitution, Babasaheb Bhim Rao Ambedkar, the Bharat Interface for Money (BHIM) is a simplified payment platform designed to make Unified Payment Interface (UPI) and USSD payment modes simpler and usable across feature phones and smartphones.
Developed by National Payment Corporation of India (NPCI), BHIM is supported by host of banks, including State Bank of India, ICICI Bank, Axis Bank, HDFC Bank, Bank of India, Canara Bank, Kotak Mahindra Bank,
Oriental Bank of Commerce and Punjab National Bank, among others.
The app, which can be downloaded from Google Play Store, is currently available in Hindi and English, and support for more languages is expected soon.
The app is a rebranded version of UPI (Unified Payment Interface) and USSD (Unstructured Supplementary Service Data). BHIM has been developed by National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) and is about 2MB in size.
PM Modi said that BHIM will be the world’s biggest wonder. The app takes on the likes of Paytm, Mobikwik, Freecharge and other mobile payment apps which have become hugely popular since the government announced banning of Rs 500 and Rs 1000 notes on November 8. While launching the app, PM made payment to Khaadi. UPI needed all banks to become interoperable with the UPI technology (between February and June 2016), which is no mean task. NPCI took two extra months to ensure as many banks as possible were on board a compact system.
UPI is how apps like PhonePe — built in less than a year — help make the inter-banking experience as simple as email for customers. It is a living and breathing platform that enables immediate payments. And it was a wake-up call for banks to get their technology act together.
Bharat Interface for Money (or BHIM) is another of UPI’s progeny and applications. The buzz in the tech sphere is that it is the shape of things to come — read, technology and micro-lending. Though BHIM allows sending money to a mobile number, it requires the receiver to be registered with the UPI in order to accept payment. In turn, the long process of generating a UPI PIN by entering debit card details may discourage the poor and the illiterate.
“Through Aadhaar, any person — large service providers or independent ones such as plumbers or carpenters, irrespective of whether they are on BHIM or not — can get payments for their services directly into their bank accounts if it is linked to Aadhaar,” said Pandey. He added that almost two crore people are linking with accounts with Aadhaar every month and total figure for such accounts should go up to 50-60 crore — half the country —in the next two to three months.
Currently, there are five payment options on the BHIM app — namely mobile number, bank account or IFSC code, among others. Aadhaar number will be the sixth such option. “There are some teething troubles but we are working on strengthening security,” said Pandey.
